Rocstock Farm is family owned and operated. It is composed of Jimmy and Robin Rochell, their daughter Brittney and their son, daughter in law, and granddaughter Josh, Kristy and Rae’kyn. Everyone always ask why Rocstock so we will clear that up first. Our last name is Rochell so we took the first three letters, Roc, and combined them with stock because we have other kinds of animals also. Together they became Rocstock.
On April 3, 1981 Jimmy and Robin married. Jimmy's dream was to own and operate a farm and to raise his kids in the country. Robin being a city girl reluctantly agreed. Josh was born in ‘83 and Brittney followed in ‘86. In September of ‘88 they bought a house and 71 acres west of Duncan and started living the dream. Jimmy started out with a small herd
of cattle that has grown over time. Jimmy worked in the oilfield, while Robin stayed home with the kids and tended to the "farm life".
When Josh was old enough to join 4-H he started showing cattle. When Brittney was old enough she also joined 4-H. Josh wanted a show pig, but Jimmy said no. Josh finally succeeded in talking his dad into letting him and Brittney get show pigs. That year they both got Durocs. Little did any of us know this would be the beginning of a lifelong love for all of us.
When the kids were old enough they both joined the FFA and continued to show cattle and pigs. Brittney showed sheep one year but we all knew our love was with the pigs. Josh loved the study of them. He spent countless hours on the road with his Ag teacher attending sales all over the state. He had found his calling. When he stepped foot into a pig barn it was like his whole life changed. We started raising pigs as a hobby, then it became so much more. It became part of us...it became who we are.
Agriculture has always been a huge part of our lives since the very beginning. Jimmy got his State Farmer degree back when he was in FFA. In ‘02 Josh received his State FFA degree at the State Convention in Oklahoma City and went on in ‘03 to receive his American FFA degree at the National FFA Convention in Louisville, Kentucky. Brittney was following closely in her dad and brothers footsteps. In ‘04 she received her State FFA degree at the State Convention and went on in ‘05 to receive her American FFA degree in Louisville, Kentucky. The American FFA degree is the highest degree anyone can obtain in the FFA. Only about one half of one percent of the total national membership of the organization attains this high honor. As you can tell we are very proud for both kids to have received this honor.
In September of ’07 our lives all changed dramatically. Rae’kyn Pauline Rochell came in to the world on September 29. She is our precious angel!
Jimmy works for The Angelina Group as a consultant. He is doing oilfield safety consulting in the San Juan Basin. When he is at work he resides in Aztec, New Mexico. He is on a two week rotation. Robin takes care of the farm while he is gone. She also travels to Stillwater regularly to visit Brittney at college and watch those OSU Cowboys. It is a great time to be a Cowboy. When Jimmy is home he and Robin enjoy spending time with their beautiful granddaughter Rae’kyn. She is the best granddaughter anyone could have. They love her dearly. Ms. Rae’kyn is going to be able to get anything she wants from Grampa and Grama. Jimmy recently purchased Robin a 350Z Roadster Convertible and himself a Harley. They enjoy playing in their toys.
Brittney graduated from Cameron University in Dec. 07’ with an Associate’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. She transferred to Oklahoma State University in Jan. ’08 and is pursuing an Agricultural Communications degree with a minor in Agricultural Economics. She is a candidate for Graduation in Dec. ’09. Josh and Kristy both work for the County. Josh works in District 2, while Kristy works at the Stephens CountyFair and Expo Center. Kristy graduated from Oklahoma State University with a degree in Agriculture. Josh and Kristy recently purchased a pre-conditioning feedlot east of Duncan. Rochell Cattle Company takes up most of their time nowadays. As you can tell our lives really do revolve around Ag and always will be a huge part of who we are. |
